Welcome to crazy town. Aka Cambodia
I don't even know where to begin in painting you a picture of our last 2 two days, let's just say if we thought that last bus ride was crazy we were in for one hell of a reality check. Let me break it
Down.
It started with a short 3 hour bus ride to the capital of Laos, at the bus stop we tried ordering some supper but the people wanted nothing to do with us so Pringles was our go to meal ( disclosure: we've had to eat a lot of Pringles on these bus trips.) So we went looking for our bus and got reaal excited because our bus was a double deck sleeper bus and the beds looked GREAT.
So we get on the bus and just our luck find out that we have to share one of these beds... And then after goofing around for 20 minutes because we had the whole top floor to ourselves, the entire top deck filled with a big group of
Loud Indian men, 3 of which were blasting seperate music sources because I guess headphones are optional.
They started quietting down finally and everybody went to sleep, cue insane thunderstorm and downpour. The bus was still just speeding along and being on the top floor, yeah that was a bit freaky.
After a very long and uncomfortable sleep we woke up at 5 am to the music blasting again, wow and the amount oF garbage those men threw on the floor was horendous.
And then after we got to Paksi we were ushered on another mini bus to an unknown destination (Pringles for breakfast yummay) and that its right? Wrong. We were told to get on a 20 minute Moterbike ride to again who knows where because nobody actually told us ever what was going on.. Only
To get dropped off at the Cambodian border, cya.
From there we got our visa and went wondering around for our mystery bus until a guy saw us and told us to
Chill out maaaan have a beer and we will be leaving in 20 minutes (never did anybody actually Check our tickets) we met a really nice couple who have been bicking for 11 Months all the way from from France and back again, made me feel a lot more tame about my plan to bike across Canada that's for sure.
40 minutes later we got yelled at by our asshole bus driver to get in yet ANOTHER MINI VAN, the 5th one at this point, just Nat and me and the asshole going to supposedly Siem Reip, but then we stopped switched drivers and picked up a bus full of people (all of which were pretty great) as well as picking up and dropping off the locals along the way of course.
and after a loong 6 and a half hours we get to this crazy city.
.......... And then after a little bit of a search we found a place to pass out after that insane journey, what a fricken adventure.
I've been checking every so often to see if you had made another entry! And finally I see you have arrived! Great! I read you blog entry to Marilyn and Bill and your grandma and Grandpa. Quite a journey!!!! Sheila
ReplyDeleteLet the games begin, no more Pringles. Pick up fruit from the street or market stalls already cut up. Great for sharing/meeting fellow travellers. Be careful being friendly with men, it can be misconstrued!
