Potato coffee.

I don't think I could have planned a better last few days if I tried. I wouldn't trade the last 72 hours for anything.. We didn't have another teaching day instead we went and whatched children of all ages do a 5 kilometre March through the main road of Tulemben. Independence Day is on the 17th of August, and the kids have been spending a lot of their time preparing for this. They walked in single file, no smiling, and dressed the same clothes (best outfits win a prize) which was amazing because no way Canadian kids have that kind of discipline at that age to do anything like that..

Then we went out for a dinner and drank a fair amount of Araq and everybody was pretty loosy goosy, but we had an amazing night together. The owner has an unreal singing voice and played for us and we all sang together and then the guitar got passed over to me and the other volunteers went nuts for "free falling ". We headed back at around 1 am and two other girls and I went for a swim and the stars and galaxies were bright and alive as well as the plankton, a last night spent surrounded by the stars.

I also spontaneously decided to join a group of the volunteers who were going to North/west Bali for two days and it's been so so great. They are such great people and it's been fun to travel in a big group, I'm sad I only got a week with them. I know their month volunteering and being together is going to be incredible. Little bit jealous I'm not apart of it. We arrived late last night in Lovina, and our homestay was awful.. Worse than Bagus Bagus in flores so I recommended we go on an adventure and find a bit of a nicer place. And we came across a place pretty quick with a pool, air con, hot water, wifi for almost the same price BOOM. And after that we needed a drink and found ourselves at a funky bar and still feeling like rock stars from the night before got on stage and played and sang together and it was another awesome night!

And then we planned to go the waterfall in the afternoon and holy mother of god that was a good day. I'll let the photographs speak for themselves, but every single one of us were laughing and smiling and it was such a beautiful
day..  Nature is so poweful that way. After climbing the ridiculous steps back up to the top from the waterfall we went to the little road side Cafe and they let us try a bunch of different types of unique coffees and teas like coconut, sweet potato, and ginger coffee. And just not so coincidently the potato coffee rocked my
Potato world and I bought two bags.. And will not be sharing with my soon to be roommates. Sorry not sorry guys.

Tomorrow we have plans to go
At 6 am on a boat to Watch the sunrise with dolphins and then I am leaving on my own to Kuta, where there are two other volunteers who are there for an
EDM festival which I may tag along for if I feel up for it. It just hit me this morning that I am leaving... Bittersweet.

  1. sooo beautiful !! It looks like paradise. What does potato coffee taste like?? Can't really imagine (like potato vodka maybe). It seems your voluteering has turned out to be more about traveling with voluteers - I'm sure their stories are vivid enough to make you feel like you were there too.
