Feeling like a 1996 film..
Welp. The sprout farm has been a rollercoaster of shame at this point to be completely and utterly honest with you. The first week was probably our best week and ever since then it has just been going up ( I say up because if you really think about it the up part of the roller coaster is the worst part of the ride.) Last week our pour sprouts didn't grow enough to harvest enough for the shops we deliver too, just the market.. and this week we don't even have any for the market. So on that note, I am officially on the hunt for a second job, need to make some cash money not just maintain it. Lismore is a pretty hard place to find work but hopefully I can find something, wish me luck in that department!
That being said, on the way to print out my resumes this afternoon I had a very horrifying and traumatic experience and I will probably never be the same again. I was walking down the main road completely minding my business thinking about how beautiful of a day it was when in broad daylight it felt like something fully smashed me in the head to the point where I almost fell over. It took me maybe a full minute to realize it was a magpie, and I looked around to see if anybody just saw me get attacked and are laughing their asses off at me but nope, I was the only one who got to experience it. I walked away like half laughing half dazed and confused until my head started to spin and I put my hand to my head only to find I was bleeding pretty badly. I walked back to the skate shop where Yoshi was working and he told me its actually a really common thing in spring time and helped me put antiseptic on the cut from the bird claws . I had to get Marlon to come and pick me up from town and he told me in all seriousness that the bird will remember my face and will probably attack me again if it sees me and to start carrying around a stick for protection, he wasn't joking even a bit. Really didn't think that was how my day was going to go and probably wont leave the house again until October.
When I'm not on the farm I've really enjoyed just hanging out, eating way to many Tim Tams which is a cookie made from gods tears, An Australian cliché that I cant believe I ever lived without. I don't dare look at how many calories are in just one..
I also impulsively put a hole in my face that I know the famjam will hate, don't worry I'll only probably have it for the next 6 years or less anyways.

We have had a few small parties out at the farm which have been super fun. Its pretty hard to have a bad time anywhere when your surrounded by such great friends. Wednesdays are my favorite nights of the week, its when Yoshi and I always go on a date to either "Magic Noodle" a dungy noodle shop where you can pick from over 40 kinds of noodle dishes, or this week we are switching it up and going to get fancy pizzas, because really lets be real, pizza is the way to my heart no doubt about it. I've been pretty home sick lately, missing having lots of my girlfriends around me and family, its funny how familiar I feel in such a familiar place because I have my gang here with me though. It makes it easier and I can see Australia in a different way than the average traveller does. I really like seeing where they grew up and went to school and memories there as well as meeting their families. We have made plans to go to a music festival in Newcastle in October and are going to make a road trip out of it, a big group of us are going and I am super stoked for it!

Yup those chocolate caramel Cakes look pretty addictive. Magpies attacking? Strange behavior indeed, I've never heard of that!
ReplyDeleteMagpies and crows are very intelligent. They are probably at a magpie conference right now talking about which innocent Canadian victim they will get next..
ReplyDeleteHi Hannah, perhaps you were close to a magpie nest? They are very domestic kind of bird. A friend of mine over there would whistle and they would come eat out of their hand. But you do have to be careful as you know they can attack too. It's not ever likely to happen again!!! I'm glad you were too badly injured! Pretty scary!
ReplyDeleteI hope you can find another job to supplement your income. Why didn't the sprouts grow?
We will stand by by for your next post.
Love Sheila
